Stanford - Industry collaborations at the intersection of people and technology
Media X facilitates collaboration between industry and the research community at Stanford to address challenges that emerge at the intersection of people and technology. Driven by questions of importance within both academia and industry, the research activities fostered by Media X attract faculty and students from a wide range of disciplines and thought leaders from pre-eminent companies representing a diverse cross-section of industries. The goal of the collaborative research is to tackle some of today’s most challenging and intriguing issues.
The Media X model is unique among industry/university collaboration programs in that partners identify the issues or questions that they find most relevant, and Media X seeks out research activities and interests within the university that are pertinent to those topics. Facilitating valuable pairings between experienced industry executives and talented researchers on topics of common interest produces distinct benefits to all parties. Companies gain actionable research insights on topics of strategic relevance, share best practices with other industry executives with common interests, and identify promising graduate students for recruiting purposes. Through Media X facilitated introductions to companies, the research community potentially benefits in many ways: funding of projects, access to data needed to drive research, insight into industry challenges, potential applications for research, and an opportunity to share ideas with practitioners and brainstorm with industry executives.
On behalf of its partners, Media X has engaged over 150 faculty members from numerous departments and labs drawing from all seven schools at Stanford. Media X has more than 25 partners.
