Stanford Humanities Lab (SHL)
The Stanford Humanities Lab enables scholars in the humanities to undertake mid- to large-scale team-based research projects. By supporting innovative research, SHL seeks to expand the scope and scale of humanitas, supplementing traditional humanities training with "hands-on" experiences in a true laboratory setting.
Launched in April of 2000, the Stanford Humanities Lab grew out of then-president Gerhard Casper's Presidential Lectures and Symposia in the Humanities. The Lab was formed to serve as an intellectual venture capitalist, with the collaborative research projects in which it invests as its start-ups.
