The Summer Institute at Wallenberg Hall: Mastering the Tools of Video Ethnography

What: The Summer Institute at Wallenberg Hall: Mastering the Tools of Video Ethnography

This four-day workshop is intended for researchers who wish to use digital video tools to support their ethnographic research. In contrast to "boot camps" focussed on digital filmmaking, this course puts special attention on the unique needs of the ethnographer:

  • no script, no planning, no re-shoots
  • less freedom to "fix it in post productions" - ethnography is data, and must maintain integrity

Participants will plan, produce and post-produce a small project during the week, and participate in sessions with the head of the Stanford Graduate Documentary Film School, a professional sound engineer and National Geographic series editor, and Stanford Professor Roy Pea, noted ethnographic practitioner and tool-builder.
